Four evolving leadership styles: telling, selling, participating and delegating

Analoguous to a parent-child relationship where the parent gradually relinquishes control as the child matures (pp. 197)

Appropriate leader behavior is defined by (pp. 197):

  • Situational demands for direction (task behavior) and for socioeconomical support (relationship behavior)
  • The level of maturity of the follower or group relative to the task or objective that the leader is attempting to accomplish through the follower’s efforts
